Paul Konerko v Red Sox

His two hits were the biggest offensive output of the day.

The Sox had their first game against the Royals postponed on Friday, so they opened the series Saturday afternoon. Unfortunately, the Royals have been relatively good while the Sox have been relatively bad. This was the case today, as they lost 2-0.

Dylan Axelrod had a pretty good game today. He lasted 7.2 innings, allowing two runs on eight hits, a walk, and two hit batters. Matt Thornton recorded the last out of the eighth without allowing a hit or a walk. Unfortunately for Axelrod, his decent start wasn’t good enough when facing Royals starter Jeremy Guthrie. He pitched a complete game and allowed just four hits and a walk.

The offense had no answer for Guthrie. Paul Konerko picked up two hits while Alejandro De Aza and Tyler Flowers picked up the other two. Adam Dunn drew the lone walk. There’s really nothing else to say about the offense. They were utterly dominated by Guthrie.

Hopefully the Sox can turn things around tomorrow. Jose Quintana takes the mound against Wade Davis. Quintana is looking for his third win of the season. He wasn’t at his best last time out against the Rangers, but he picked up a no-decision against the Rangers. Davis’s last two starts weren’t the greatest as he gave up seven runs, three earned, against the Tigers and then eight runs, all earned, against the Indians. Maybe the Sox can get to him too.
